Mother's Christmas 2021

 CHRISTMAS 2021

Mother taught me that giving money for a gift is not a good gift at all.  When you are involved in a person's life, you know what they need, what they can use but would not buy for themselves, and even what they want.  When you know them, you buy for them accordingly.  When you can't afford to give them a great gift, DO something for them or MAKE something for them.  The point is to let them know they are special TO YOU.  THAT is a gift!

That said, Mother never had a lot of money, as many of us can relate.  As she ages, money is more important to her than most things we could buy for her.  So, here is what she received from me and my Kid Sister this year.  My grand daughter, Charlie,  is the creative one who decided how to present her with the gift:

VELMA AND GRANNY SHAW

  VELMA AND GRANNY SHAW

I woke up feeling a bit nostalgic today.  I was remembering my time spent with Velma.  Her Mom would come and wake us up with a cup of coffee and we would all talk a while, while we had coffee.  Now her mom, Granny, would slurp her coffee pretty loudly while she chomped on peanut butter wafer cookies.  Looking back, this was such a terrific time in my life.

Velma had three daughters:  Judy was married by the time I entered the picture.  She was glamorous.  She was Dolly Parton's look alike....and she could really sing!   Linda was beautiful.  She would say what she meant and meant what she said.  She was my role model.  Lisa was the baby, a teenager.  I stayed with Velma for a year or more, I guess.  I was working in her restaurant when Sam came in and told us that Exxon was looking to hire girls.

I loved Velma and her family.  God has always surrounded me with great people.

THE POWER WENT OUT

 September 4, 2021

The power went out around 8:30 this morning.  I was upstairs working on the computer and Mother was downstairs watching television.  I heard her say, "Well, the lights are out."  Then a few moments later, she called upstairs, "Do you have lights up there?"       hahahahahaha

MOTHER GIVES ME DIRECTION

 MOTHER GIVES ME DIRECTION

Before 10 o'clock this morning, Mother told me to get me a cup of coffee, check to see if the Neighbor's dog was loose in the back yard, and to take a nap.  It is wonderful to have someone helping me to take care of things.  I love my Mamma.

INDEPENDENCE

 INDEPENDENCE

Mother has been saying for months that she has been popping the air out of her bag during the night when she gets up to pe.  Two days ago, she showed me how she did it!  Sure enough, she has taken care of that!  This morning, she led me to the bathroom and showed me that she had emptied the bag of it's solid contents.  Mother just keeps getting better and better.  I am so proud of her.  It looks like she is re-claiming some of her stubborn independence she had when I was young.

BRILEY AND HER SISTERS

 BRILEY AND HER SISTERS

It was Friday, March 26th.  The little girls had helped me wash Todd's truck, which I had been wanting to do for two weeks.  They were rewarded by spending the night with us.

They wanted me to read to them when they were ready for bed, and I would have, normally, but I had gotten hot and sweaty and I told them that I stunk.  (They would have normally gathered round me in the bed for the reading.)  I offered that I would read to them in the morning.

As I was going through my social media on the computer, I heard Briley reading to them.  She read the Creation story and about Adam and Eve in The Garden.  Then, I heard her say, "I'm sleepy." and there was only the sound of the book falling to the floor.

What a great big sister she is!

 POOR NEIGHBORS

A man came to the house Saturday and loaded up the riding lawn mower after the kids left for points unknown.  Mother watched from her window and told me all about what was going on.  I went outside and confirmed that the kids were gone and Greg had come to take possession of the mower that he had negotiated for.  No problem.

Then, a few days later, Mother told me that Michelle had loaded up a bunch of bicycles to go sell.  She wanted me to let the kids know that they could have her money.  She just KNEW that they were desperate for money, since they were selling all of their belongings.

I assured her that they were just fine, since they live on a budget.

THE FAR COUNTRY

 THE FAR COUNTRY

By Universal Pictures - L. Tom Perry Special Collections, James Stewart papers, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=84217460

Mother is sitting in front of the television watching a western movie.  She tells me that she has sixty something dollars in cash from Valentine's Day.  I ask her if she has change for a twenty and she says she does.  She fumbled to get her "money bag" open and made change for me.  I gave her the twenty and she asks me what I needed that much money for.  I tell her that if she counts her money, that it is the same amount she had before she made change for me.

Then she goes off on to her favorite subject of emptying her bag before we go to bed. I have said many times that I will be picking up Michael at 10 o'clock and it isn't even 8 o'clock now.  anyway, I ask her if she is ready to go to bed and she says, "no, I'm watching this western.  I think it's a new one.  I've never seen it before.

The name of the western is The Far Country starring Jimmy Stewart.  He died in July of 1997.  Nothing like watching a new western.  smh

There is no one like my Mother.  I love having her with me.
